TEFL Madrid In-Depth
Madrid is a relatively cheap place to live and English teachers can earn decent salaries, while working just 25-30 hours per week.
Living expenses, rent and bills, are around €700-€900 per month and salaries (after tax) can range from €1,250 to €1,500 per month, meaning that you can travel, eat out and maybe even save comfortably.
Spanish food is relatively inexpensive and although Madrid is brimming with traditional restaurants, you’ll find that international restaurants and ingredients are easily accessible.
It’s recommended to have savings of approx €2000 – €2500 Euro before you begin your program, to live comfortably until you’re paid by your employer, which is usually at the end of your first month teaching.
OPTIONS DURING THE COURSE
The team based in Madrid advise you on the best places to live and how to search for an apartment in the perfect area for you.
We usually recommend securing housing for the first two months of your stay – at least covering your time doing your TEFL course. Once you’re registered for your TEFL course date, you’ll be sent advice on how to find and secure the best apartments.

It all comes down to where you decide to live and work, following the course! You’ll have full assistance from the team to ensure you have your new, more permanent accommodation secured, if you decide to move. A month’s rent in a shared apartment is typically €400 – €600 EUR per month.
Course format
The TEFL program in Madrid is a level 5 accredited (TQUK) hybrid TEFL course, with 6 observed teaching practices in person. You’ll have access to our online classroom and can start working through the 65 hours online component that you’ll need to complete before you start your on-site, practical training. After the two-week intensive program on-site in Madrid, you’ll be fully prepared to start working as an English teacher anywhere in the world.
Teaching practices
There are 6 teaching practices, which cover all levels of English (beginner to advanced) and include individual and group classes. All teaching practices are observed and include detailed feedback by experienced TEFL trainers. The teaching practices are carried out in the same building.
Type of assessment
The course is assessed through weekly projects, a main project, and a final exam. This is all externally moderated and approved by the accreditation board.
Course location and center
The TEFL center is located in the middle of Madrid and is modern and bright. There are big classrooms for the TEFL training and the teaching practices are carried out in the same building in classrooms to suit smaller group sizes – ideal for teaching group English classes.
RequirementsÂ
To complete the TEFL course you need to be at least 18 years old (although each applicant is considered on a case by case basis). You can also be a non-native speaker of English as long as you have a level C1 or above, which will be tested during the interview. A Bachelors degree (in any discipline) is preferred, however there are plenty of TEFL jobs for non degree holders.

Many TEFL providers allow their students to come to Spain and stay illegally after the three month period, however, TEFL Connect provides a course that allows non-EU passport holders a university visa for a year, which includes Spanish classes, ongoing Professional Development and you can legally work as many hours as you like, anywhere you like. You’ll not only receive your Advanced TEFL Certificate, but learn a new language as well!
For non EU candidates you get the opportunity to learn Spanish to fulfill your visa requirements.Â
